A practical checklist before a pest inspection

A little preparation helps the team understand your concern, access your property and explain the next steps clearly.

The most useful preparation starts with information. Before you move furniture or buy a product, ask what the proposed assessment needs. Preparation for an inspection may differ from preparation for a treatment.

Make a short record of the concern

Write down where you notice activity, when it happens and how long it has continued. Photos can help with the first conversation when they can be taken without disturbing a suspected problem. Describe any cleaning, repairs or earlier treatments already attempted.

Plan access and responsibilities

Confirm the property address, a working contact number and who can provide access. For apartments or workplaces, discuss permission for shared or restricted areas. Let the team know about children, pets, operating hours and relevant sensitivities before the visit is arranged.

Get instructions that match the actual service

Ask what needs to be moved, covered or left undisturbed. If treatment is recommended, request written preparation, re-entry, ventilation and cleaning instructions specific to that plan. Do not assume a generic checklist applies to every pest or product.

Keep the appointment distinction clear

A submitted inspection request records your preferred date and time. PPCI must review coverage and availability before confirming an appointment. Fees and treatment scope should also be discussed before you proceed.
