When discussing mosquitoes, describe the property as well as the insects. The places and times you notice activity, accessible outdoor spaces and shared-area responsibilities all help frame the conversation.
Look at the water-holding items you can access
Mosquito control guidance identifies standing water as an important consideration. Around your own property, notice containers and other items that hold water. Follow appropriate property-maintenance guidance rather than adding chemicals to drains or containers yourself.
Separate private areas from common areas
A balcony, garden, terrace and building drain may have different people responsible for access and maintenance. Explain these boundaries when requesting an assessment. Do not enter restricted or unsafe spaces to investigate.
Share useful details with the team
Note where activity is most noticeable, whether it is indoors or outdoors and whether a similar concern affects neighbouring spaces. Photos of accessible conditions can support the first discussion. PPCI will need to review serviceability, access and the actual site before agreeing a scope.
Ask what the recommendation covers
Confirm the premises, timing, preparation and review arrangements. A mosquito enquiry does not automatically specify fogging or any other method. The agreed recommendation should explain what is proposed for the property and what supporting maintenance is needed.
